Noodles and Sauces

  • 1 packet taco seasoning mix Use homemade or mild blend for children.
  • 1 cup sour cream Substitute Greek yogurt for a lighter version.
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup Use a gluten-free version if needed.
Cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Sharp cheddar adds depth; feel free to mix in mozzarella or pepper jack.
Seasoning

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat for about 5-7 minutes until fully browned.
  2. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Stir in the taco seasoning and follow the packet instructions to thicken the beef mixture slightly.
  4. In a medium bowl, combine the cooked egg noodles, sour cream, and cream of mushroom soup, mixing well until the noodles are coated.
  5. Spread the noodle mixture in the greased baking dish.
  6. Layer the seasoned beef on top, ensuring it covers the noodles completely.
  7. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the beef layer.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Optional: Add garlic powder or chopped green chiles for extra flavor. This dish freezes well and can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
